Rob Pierry, Geniant

Rob Pierry is a Senior Consultant for Geniant’s Application Infrastructure Practice. He serves on the company’s board as the 2006 Geniant partner representative. Mr. Pierry’s experience in the computer hardware and software industries spans a variety of platforms and problem spaces. Mr. Pierry co-runs Geniant’s .Net User Group which is responsible for mentoring junior developers and disseminating emerging technical knowledge and best practices to both technical and non-technical partners. Mr. Pierry has published several articles in leading industry magazines and holds an MCSD certification. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Managing Architectural Complexity

It should come as no surprise that systems are often big and complicated. Sometimes complexity stems from solving complicated problems. Often it creeps up artificially, whether from incorrect tool and platform choices or through inconsistent execution of a solid strategy.

This presentation explores a three-fold approach to handling complexity: reject it when you really don't need it, reduce it when possible through techniques such as domain specific languages, code generation, and real-world-derived frameworks, and manage it when it's necessary through automated guidance and software factories.
